It's the weekend! We're all at home!

 

Carrington is open from 7:45am - 5:45pm, Monday to Friday.

What follows is a 'typical' day at Carrington. This program is flexible and may change according to the children's needs, strengths, ages or interests of the children during the day. We encourage children to be active participants in the program regardless of race, gender or ability and in an environment that encourages diversity.

7:45am to 8:15am - Centre Opens
All children are in the 4-5 years room exploring quiet activities upon arrival. Place your fruit in the basket at the front door and choose a locker in your child's room for their belongings. Sign your child in, on the clip boards located in the foyer.

 

8:15am to 9:30am - Free Play
All children then go outdoors (weather permitting). Our outdoor program is set up to include constructive, creative, manipulative and gross motor experiences (please see program on our foyer noticeboard) or morning experiences begin in which children are free to participate.(If indoors, the younger children leave the older room by 8:30 am). Nappy change time occurs.

 

9:30am to 9:45am - Morning Music Group
All children can participate in a planned music experience.

 

9:45am to 10:00am - Group Meeting
We talk about what the children might like to explore today, complimented by planned experiences based on the children's needs, strengths and interests- individually or collectively. Discussion on current projects, story time and singing also occur.

 

10:00am to 10:25am - Progressive Morning Tea
This is a variety of cut up fruit and alternate between sandwiches and plain biscuits. We encourage the children to wash their hands before they eat, and the older children serve themselves with the tongs. The older children are encouraged to share experiences and ideas as they eat.

 

10:00am to 11:15am - Indoor Time
Free exploration within the room, enhancing all areas of development including social, cognitive, computers, puzzles, fine motor, sensory, creative, maths, and science development. All these things emphasize problem solving, self help skills, self confidence, turn taking, conflict resolution, dramatic play and trying on of roles in a comfortable setting.

 

11:15am to 11:30am - Language Group Time
Children are encouraged to pack away as a team together. Children will be engaged in a small language discussion group based on their current interests. The older children are then encouraged to make their own beds for rest. Hats and sunscreen applied for outdoor play. Nappy change time occurs

 

11:30am to 11:45am - Outdoor Play
Please refer to our outdoor program located in the foyer of the centre

 

11:45am to 12:15pm - Lunch Time
Children are encouraged to wash their hands and sit at the table. They are encouraged to try different foods and textures. Conversation is facilitated by the staff about what the food is like, how it smells and tastes, why it is good for us etc and foster a home-like and comfortable setting. Dessert is also provided (please see our menu in the foyer for meals). Children are encouraged to toilet and wash their hands.

 

12:15pm to 12:25pm - Storytime
As the children finish their lunch they will be engaged in story time with a variety of picture books.

 

12:25pm to 2:00pm - Rest and Sleep
Children sleep or rest on their beds whilst listening to music.

 

2:00pm to 2:15pm - Rise and Shine
All children rise and the older ones pack away their own beds, encouraging growing self help skills. Experiences are placed out again, based on children's choice and/or follow on from morning explorations and discoveries. Nappy change time occurs

 

2:15pm to 2:45pm - Progressive Afternoon Tea
The children are encouraged to choose from a variety of bases and the older children spread a topping on a variety of breads, extending their self-help skills. They are also encouraged to pour their own drinks.

 

2:45pm to 3:15pm - Music / Language Group
Children will participate in a group discussion with peers.

 

3:15pm to 4:00pm - Time to Pack Away
The children pack away as a team before we get ready to go outdoors (weather permitting). Sunscreen and hats are applied.

 

4:00pm to 4:30pm - Late Afternoon Tea
Late afternoon tea Nappy change time occurs

 

4:30pm to 5:45pm - Pack Away Outside and Play
Outdoors starts to be packed away In the colder months, the children move indoors for quiet activities. During warmer weather, the children stay outside for a longer period .

 

5:45pm to 7:45am - Carrington Kids closes
